Step-n-Smartly, developed jointly by ToucanEd, Inc. and Premier Marketing Group,* is an Internet-based health curriculum designed to increase the physical activity of students in grades 3–5 in the State of Maine.

ToucanEd provided original writing, design, and art for this project. Step-n-Smartly is an Internet-based health curriculum designed to increase the physical activity of students in grades 3–5 in the State of Maine. Using an interactive Website, classes take part in a virtual “race” across their state based on the number of miles they walk each week. Teachers download relevant lessons on state history, geography, literature, and other curriculum areas (such as math, science, and visual arts). Lesson content is determined by state learning objectives and is grade specific. Every lesson also includes a health or physical activity integration, with a focus on skills such as decision making, goal setting, and analyzing influences. The lively, color-coded Website includes resource links for lesson content as well as a message board for teachers to share classroom tips and suggestions.

The Step-n-Smartly curriculum is a project that was developed jointly by ToucanEd, Inc. and Premier Marketing Group. *(The American Lung Association of Maine is a lung health partner with Premier Marketing Group on the Maine version of the curriculum, Step-n-Smartly in Maine.)
