How do we stop the cycle of violence in many families? This bilingual training guide takes you through an eight-week workshop series for families developed by Defensa de Mujeres, a non-profit organization that serves abused women and their children. Healthy Families/Familias Saludables approaches the issue of violence within a cultural context, encouraging participants to examine the positive and negative cultural messages with which they live.
Training participants learn:
- how culture affects family well-being
- how to identify factors that contribute to domestic violence
- how domestic violence affects children
- how alcohol and other drug use contributes to domestic violence
- how to enhance communication skills within the family
- how to handle family stress in healthful ways
- how to identify community resources for prevention and intervention of family violence
- and much more
Each session contains clear goals and objectives, a materials list, preparation guidelines, and numbered workshop steps as well as background information, worksheets, surveys, and other participant materials. YouÕll also find suggestions for adapting the sessions to your local community.

Defensa de Mujeres is a non-profit organization that serves abused women and their children in Santa Cruz County and the Pajaro Valley in California. Their mission is to assist Latinas and other women by intervening in the cycle of violence and offering supportive services.
